RAIN or Shine aims to grab a 2-0 lead while the Meralco Bolts seek to get even when they clash in Game 2 of the best-of-five semifinals of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at 5 p.m. today at the Araneta Coliseum.
Recharged after the Holy Week break, the Elasto Painters are keen to sweep the series. They won Game One 99-86, behind the prowess of Wayne Chism, Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, Jervy Cruz, Chris Tiu and Jericho Cruz on March 31.
“Walang time para sa Holy Week eh, so sa bahay lang ako. May mga practice din at laro sa Sunday, so wala talaga time para magrelax,” said Rain or Shine’s Beau Belga.
The Tondo-born Lee likewise spent the short break at home while preparing for the game. “Umuwi lang ako sa amin. May mga pakain pag Holy Week sa bahay kaya tumutulong lang ako. Kailangan kung ano yung ginagawa mo pag Holy Week, gawin mo pa rin,” he said.
Meralco coach Norman Black was thankful for the opportunity to replenish his team’s energy, “The number one thing we need is to get some rest. We just came off of a tough series against NLEX, so we need fresher legs. We don’t want to make too many changes and adjustments. Getting back on defense has been a strength of my team this conference. We just need a better job on that,” he said.
The winner between Meralco and Rain or Shine will face the victor between Purefoods and Talk ‘N Text in the best-of-seven finals. The Purefoods Hotshots of Tim Cone are enjoying a 1-0 lead over the Tropang Texters through their 100-94 triumph in the opening game on April 1.
