Rain or Shine through impeccable three-point shooting prowess in the second half of Game 2 beat Meralco, 92-82, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinals of the Philippine Basketball Association Season 40 Commissioners Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Combo guard Paul Lee posted 23 points including five triples, Jericho Cruz added 15 points, import Wayne Chism 11 points plus 18 rebounds and six assists while Chris Tiu and Jonathan Uyloan added 10 and nine points, respectively, for Rain or Shine.
The Elasto Paintmasters recorded 19 triples in the game.
Meralco banked on Gary David’s 11 points in the first half to gain a 47-44 halftime lead. Besides David, the hardworking import Josh Davis had also a good production in the first two quarters with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the field and 11 boards.
The Bolts finished the first quarter ahead with a double-digit lead, 27-16, before the Elasto Paintmasters ignited excitement in the remaining minutes of second half.
Guard Jonathan Uyloan nailed his second trey in the third period to give Rain or Shine a 65-55 advantage with 3:55 left.
Rain or Shine completely outscored Meralco in the third period, 32-14, to post a 76-61 advantage at the start of the payoff period. The players of Guiao didn’t look back in the final canto to seal the win and become one game closer to reaching the finals.
Davis led Meralco with 25 points.
The Elasto Paintmasters took Game 1 last week via 99-86 win.
