• Rain or Shine’s Belga bags Player of the Week plum

Beau Belga earned the Accel-Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Player of the Week (POW) honor for the period of February 3 to 8.

The 6’6 Belga, a seventh overall pick by Purefoods in 2008, provided the leadership and defensive thrust that lifted Rain or Shine to the Finals via a 4-1 thrashing off Petron Blaze in the best-of-seven semifinals.

The former Philippine Christian University standout fired a three-point shot from a deep corner to power the Elasto Painters’ 88-83 victory that allowed them to take a commanding 3-1 lead of the series on February 3. Four days later, he finished with 18 points and nine rebounds in their 97-88 win over the Blaze Boosters in Game 5 to secure their ticket to the best-of-seven titular series.

They will be facing the winner between San Mig Coffee and Ginebra that were still playing in the other semifinals match at press time.

This is the second POW plum of the 27-year-old Belga for this conference. Belga averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists for the Elasto Painters in the series.
