Coach Carlos “Caloy” Garcia is now ready to start the post-Yeng Guiao era of Rain or Shine, when the Philippine Basketball Association Season 42 Philippine Cup begins on November 20.
Garcia though admitted the Elasto Painters would still maintain the same running, shooting and physical game system of Guiao, who is now the coach of the Northern Luzon Expressway Road Warriors.
“We are still going to adapt the same system of coach Yeng (Guiao). So far so good, the team is doing fine and improving,” Garcia told The Manila Times in a phone interview on Friday. “We played two tune up games and we have better results. We just have to keep going.”
“All the teams have updated and upgraded their line-up. So I keep telling my players to give their 100 percent and work very hard each game. The leader of this team will be Jeff Chan and Beau Belga,” added Garcia.
Two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap’s knee injury will delay his debut as a Rain or Shine player for a couple of games.
“We are still waiting for the go-signal from his doctor. James (Yap) is attending practice though but didn’t engage in physical contact. He’s just there for a shoot around and knowing the system. Everybody is excited to see James Yap play for Rain or Shine.”
