LUCENA CITY: A ranking New People’s Army (NPA) leader operating in south Quezon surrendered to the elements of 74th Brigade headed by Brig. Gen. Alex Capiña at the Philippine Army headquarters on Wednesday.
Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) Chief Lt. Gen. Caesar Ronnie Ordoyo identified the rebel returnee as Arjie Bu–lalaque alias Jared, a former finance officer of the Berto Platoon of the NPA’s guerilla unit and staff member of Anak Pawis since 2010.
Bulalaque decided to voluntarily surrender to the government troops and leave the CPP-NPA after learning the surrender of most of his comrades and the recent surrender of his brother Arnel.
Bulalaque said he belongs to a revolutionary family in Quezon. His father, known as Ka Black and a hardcore rebel in Quezon, died due to illness. He recalled that his father never received any medication and support from the NPA while he was active.
Moreover, Bulalaque said his brother Arnel was recruited by the NPA at an early age but he had abandoned the rebel movement last November 2013. Arnel is now about to receive livelihood incentives from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) under its Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
