Twenty-three-YEAR-OLD rapper Shehyee was revealed the winner of the first Spotify Emerge campaign in the Philippines.
In partnership with Globe Telecom, Spotify Emerge offers unique insights into up-and-coming music talents across the country by leveraging on Spotify’s wealth of data. Identifying 10 Filipino emerging artists based on their virality, the winner was chosen by Spotify and Globe fans through a mixture of streams, follows and shares.
“It’s such an honor to be named the first Pinoy Emerge artist,” said Shehyee on the talent hunt’s awarding ceremony held on July concluded on July 9 at 12Monkeys in Century City Mall, Makati City.
“Thank you to everyone who listened, liked and shared my music on Spotify. Spotify Emerge has given me the chance to showcase my music not only to my fellow Filipinos but to the rest of the world,” he continued.
Known as one of the fastest-rising stars in the local hip-hop scene, Shehyee first rose to fame as one of the champions of the FlipTop battle rap league. His singles, “Inspirasyon” and “Isang Umaga” (featuring Yumi Lacsamana) have established his reputation as the next hot rapper to watch out for.
Shehyee bested other nine up-and-coming OPM artists including December Avenue, Jeric Medina, Kai Honasan, Kito Romualdez, Marion Aunor, Midnight Meetings, Paolo Valenciano, Save Me Hollywood, and The Ransom Collective.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate with the first winner of Spotify Emerge in Asia, Shehyee,” announced Sunita Kaur, managing director (Asia), Spotify. “We’re massively looking forward to showcasing his talent on the global stage and collaborate with him on even more exciting opportunities. This is our way of supporting not only the OPM industry, but also the Philippines, our fastest-growing market in the region.”
The Filipino rapper joins the ranks of previous Spotify Emerge winners from other countries including Bastille and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
As well as celebrating with his fans at the Spotify Emerge finale, Shehyee will be receiving an exclusive promotional package from Spotify and Globe TM as a prize for being named the ultimate winner of the program.
