SECRETARY Herminio “Sonny” Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said any criminal complaint that will be filed against President Benigno Aquino 3rd will not prosper.
He made the statement following calls by the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Pamamalakaya ng Pilipinas on incoming President Rodrigo Duterte to put Aquino behind bars.
“That take is nonsense. The President has followed the Constitution and has implemented the laws fairly during his term as Chief Executive,” Coloma said in a radio interview.
Some groups had said that Aquino should be charged for the implementation of the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program and Priority Development Assistant Fund (PDAF) that the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional.
Three senators have been charged at the Sandiganbayan for the alleged misuse of their PDAF — Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., Juan Ponce Enrile and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada.
“The prosecution of the powerful government officials behind the PDAF scam proves that the law applies to everyone because that is in the oath of office of President Aquino,” Coloma pointed out.
Aquino will lose his immunity from suit when he steps down on June 30.
