IRENEO Raquin of Gloria, Mindoro and Mary Grace Delos Santos of Zamboanga City ruled the men and women’s respectively in the 42-kilometer Metro Manila Qualifying Leg of the 38th National Milo Marathon on Sunday at the Mall of Asia ground in Pasay City.
The 29-year-old Raquin timed 2:31:11 while the former two-time national Milo marathon champion Delos Santos crossed the finish line in 3:08:15 to lead several others into the national Finals. Both pocketed at least P50,000 each for the victory.
”I’m very happy because this is my first major title in the Milo marathon. I prepared hard for this competition and at least my sacrifice paid off,” said Raquin.
Jeson Agravante finished second behind Raquin with a time of 2:38:33 followed by Rafael Poliquit for third in 2:44:
12. In the distaff side Jennylyn Nobleza as a far second with a clocking of 3:17:40 and Aileen Tolentino settled with 3:33:01 for the third spot. ”I’m much prepared now than last year.
But my time today is still far from my personal best and even during the time I won the national crown in 2011 and 2012. There is still enough time to prepared for the national Finals. I’ll practice hard to win my third national title,” said Delos Santos, who could only finish for third place in the 37th edition last year.
Milo sports executive Andrew Neri said that a total of 37,000 runners all over Metro Manila took part in the annual race, which as way below of the targeted 40,000.
”It’s another successful staging of our marathon here. We raised our targeted runners to 40,000 because the Angeles City elimination last week gone up to a high of 10,000 runners. So we were expecting a high turnout in the Metro Manila leg,” said Neri.
Raquin and Delos Santos will have their hands full against last year’s winners Eduardo Buenavista and Mary Joy Tabal. The men and women’s winner in the national Finals on December 7 will represent the country in the forthcoming 2015 Tokyo, Japan Marathon.
