The week that was saw the much-anticipated return of dramatic actor Piolo Pascual’s to prime time television as ABS-CBN premiered its newest weeknight offering Hawak Kamay on July 21.
According to reports from showbiz news website pep.ph, the soap’s overnight ratings in Mega Manila households based on figures from AGB Neilsen registered 18.1 percent against its counterpart Niño, which posted a 22.2-percent viewership. However, later reports showed a different audience skew with Kantar Media posting a 24-percent rating for Hawak Kamay, and a much lower 15.5 percent for Niño.
As confusing as these figures may be, a seasoned TV analyst told The Manila Times that all this mix up of numbers means is that Piolo Pascual continues to be a force to reckon with in showbiz. For despite the emergence of a younger breed of leading men today, the handsome and talented actor still draws in the viewers as proven by the huge box office success of his the success of his Valentine’s movie Starting Over Again this year.
“Nauna na kasi ang Niño so may following na but it’s too early to tell kung alin sa dalawang family dramas ang mananalo in the end. Even if you take the lower rating of Hawak Kamay, it still posted a promising premiere,” added the analyst.
Saturday saw the rewind of the show’s first week on ABS-CBN, which gave viewers a chance to check into Piolo’s newest project. The actor plays a drunkard named Gin who aspires to be a famous musician. His life takes a turn, however, as three adopted children come to home, ultimately taking Gin on a whole new discovery of what it truly means to be part of a family.
