TV actress and reality show contestant Megan Young was crowned as this year’s Miss World Philippines on Sunday night.
The 23-year-old Fil-American, who represented Olongapo City, will represent the Philippines in the Miss World 2013 pageant in Indonesia on September 28.
Young also brought home majority of the special awards on coronation at the Solaire Resort and Casino.
She also won a P1-million contract from the pageant organizer as well as gifts and services from the contest’s sponsors.
Young was Best in Fashion Runway, Miss Sports by Fila, Miss Reducin, Miss Olay, Miss Laguna World, Miss Bold and Glamorous by Revlon, Miss Figlia and Miss Bench Body.
Palawan native Janicel Lubina placed second and was proclaimed First Princess, Best in Swimwear and Miss Photogenic.
As the reigning Miss Bikini Philippines, the 18-year-old Lubina, will represent the country in the Miss Bikini International competition later this year.
Zahra Bianca Saldua from Las Piñas City was crowned Second Princess and was proclaimed Miss Friendship and Miss Pantene.
Returning candidate Bianca Paz was named Third Princess and Best in Long Gown, which were the same awards she won when she first joined the pageant in 2011. Paz was also named Miss Redoxfat.
Completing the top five is Omarie Linn Osuna also from Olongapo.
The other special awardees: Miss Talent: Samantha Bernardo; and Miss Friendship: Zahra Bianca Saldua; Miss Novu Hair: Patricia Lae Ejercitado.
Young, who is part of the TV5 drama series Misibis Bay, was first seen on TV as an “avenger” in the GMA 7 reality talent search “Starstruck.” She later moved to ABS-CBN where she became part of another reality show, Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2.
Young was later cast in the several series such as “Precious Hearts Romances,” and “Betty La Fea.”
It was the first time Young joined a nationwide pageant.
She reportedly tried to join the Bb. Pilipinas this year but was disqualified because of a sexy photoshoot she had done for a magazine cover.
