A VILLAGE chief who was a rebel returnee was executed by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas on Wednesday afternoon in a remote village in Veruela, Agusan del Sur, police reports said Friday. Police identified the victim as Joselito Rodrigo, the chairman of Barangay Limot in Veruela. The reports said the incident occurred at around 6 pm Wednesday on a secluded road in Purok 1, Sitio Mahaba, Barangay Del Monte, a village allegedly infested by communist insurgents. The victim and a female companion were on his motorcycle on their way home when their path was blocked by a group of armed men believed to be NPA rebels, the reports said. The armed men separated the two before shooting the victim in different parts of his body, causing his instant death. The woman was freed unharmed by the suspected rebels who then fled towards a mountainous area.

Philippines is the only democratic Asean country which is still infested by communists, there must be someone on top that will and can take the lead in annihilating these pests in our society. All out war against them just like what Thailand did decades ago. Mindanao will never experience peace and prosperity with these bandits still around.
