Privateer champion racing team Rebellion Racing has chosen Dunlop as its tire partner for the 2016 season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Dunlop announced last year that it will return to the top category of the WEC in 2016 and, after extensive testing, Rebellion Racing was assured that Dunlop could provide competitive tires in the Le Mans Prototype 1 (LMP1) category. This decision brings back open tire competition to the LMP1 category for the first time since 2012.
Switzerland-based Rebellion Racing becomes Dunlop’s official LMP1 development partner and a dedicated development and testing program is already in place. The objective of the coming tests will be to define Dunlop tires specifications, tailored to suit the Rebellion R-One LMP1 cars, for the 2016 WEC season.
“We are delighted to welcome Dunlop as tire partner of Rebellion Racing Racing and are excited about working alongside a company with such a deep motors ports background and rich history at Le Mans. We look forward to establishing a strong and long-term relationship with Dunlop,” Bart Hayden, Rebellion Racing team manager, said.
“We saw in recent seasons that Dunlop has provided very competitive tires to the LMP2 [Le Mans Prototype 2] cars and we hope that this partnership will further improve the competitiveness of the Rebellion R-One LMP1 cars,” he added.
For his part, Xavier Fraipont, managing director of Dunlop Motorsport EMEA, said: “Team Rebellion Racing has established itself as one of the most respected and professional teams in the FIA [Fédération Interna¬tionale de l’Automobile] WEC paddock. We are delighted that they have chosen Dunlop as a technical partner. We are proud that they selected our iconic brand after an intensive comparative tire test and we will be providing focused technical support to help us drive forward together during the season.”
