THE New PeopleÕs Army on Tueday released the four policemen they held captive for nearly a month after the Armed Forces of the Philippines agreed to suspend military operations in some areas of Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte.

Freed were PO3 Vic Calubag Concom, PO1 Rey Oniel Morales, PO1 Joen Zabala and PO1 Edito Roquino, who were taken by the rebels under the group of Jorge “Ka Oris Madlos” after storming the Alegria Municipal Police station in Surigao del Norte on July 10.

Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima and Secretary Teresita “Ding” Deles of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPPAP) flew to Mindanao early Tuesday to oversee and ensure the safe release of the four policemen.

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines had earlier demanded for the suspension of military operations in exchange for the policemenÕs freedom. But the Eastern Mindanao Command turned it down.
