Rebels torch heavy equipment in Apayao

BAGUIO CITY: Communist guerillas allegedly burned three dump trucks of the huge private construction firm Omengan Construction and Development Corp. (OCDC) in Barangay Guinaang, Conner town, in Apayao on Wednesday night. Cordillera police said at least 40 fully armed guerrillas headed to the satellite offices and motorpool of the OCDC around 8:30 p.m. and set the equipment ablaze. No one among the staff members or employees of the construction company was hurt. The rebels reportedly left with one pick-up and another dump truck they got from the OCDC compound on their way to Barangay Manag, also in Conner. A pursuit operation was launched against the communist guerillas while policemen are investigating the reason for the attack. OCDC’s main office is located in Dagupan Poblacion, Tabuk City, Kalinga province’s capital.
