• Red Cross appeals for abducted mayor’s release

Former senator and Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon has appealed to the abductors of Mayor Gemma Adana of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, that she be released unharmed. “It is my hope that she will be released soon. We appeal to whoever abducted Mayor Adana to release her unharmed soon,” he said. Adana was abducted by still unidentified men from her home in Taytay Manubo village in Naga town at 9:15 pm last April 6. Initial police reports said, the suspects, armed with short firearms, entered Adana’s residence and forcibly took the mayor who was with friends at the time. The abductors then boarded two motorized boats with their captive. There are reports the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command is verifying information that Adana has been turned over to the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu.
