THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) lauded its continuing partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) in promoting blood donation programs and activities. In 2016, PRC collected 407,000 units of blood and assisted 223,000 patients needing blood. “We do not achieve anything in the Red Cross or the Department of Health without the people and without the volunteers willing to lead. Being a volunteer means you are a leader, you draw the best out of people. And you are all leaders when you bring your friends to donate blood,” PRC Chairman Richard Gordon said during the recognition ceremony of this year’s blood donors. He noted that every time there are armed conflicts like in Marawi City, the Red Cross will always be first to bring blood. Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial, who was guest and speaker of the annual event, shared their agenda towards universal health care – “All for health, towards health for all. ACHIEVE”.
