The Quezon City Jail now has a medical clinic to look after inmates who need basic health services.
The clinic was turned over Friday to jail authorities by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The clinic has a medical office, staff room, dental clinic, reception area, two comfort rooms, bathroom, examination rooms and a sick bay that could cater three people.
Jail Warden Joseph Vela said the clinic will be a big help since it can treat more inmates now than before. Vela said that because the jail is overcrowded, diseases could be easily spread.
The construction of the new clinic is part of ICRC’s Call for Action program that aims to alleviate the sufferings and problems and improve the condition of prisoners inside jails in the country.
