The San Beda College Red Lions routed the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals, 89-55, on Friday to notch their second straight win in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament at The San Juan Arena in San Juan City.
The resounding victory was a fitting follow up to their 57-49 triumph over Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers during the opening day, which allowed them to tie the San Sebastian College Stags that also bear a 2-0 win-loss record at the top of the standings.
“We were a little embarrassed with our three-point shooting the last game so we made a conscious effort to take some extra attempts from there,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
Baser Amer lead San Beda’s charge by hitting six-of-six from the three-point zone in the first half and it controlled the tempo of the match from then on.
Mapua is now at the bottom of the standings with host JRU Bombers who are also carrying 0-2 slate.
