Red Lions clip Blazers, regain solo leadership

FOUR-peat champion San Beda College Red Lions thumped the Saint Benilde Blazers, 78-54, on Saturday in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Nigerian Ola Adeogun led the Red Lions with 28 points on top of 16 rebounds and two block shots. He also displayed his prowess in the free throw lane, hitting 14-of-18 attempts as San Beda regained solo leadership with 10 wins against only two losses.

Adeogun powered San Beda’s fiery 17-5 run establishing the Red Lions’ 26-21 lead at the second half from a 9-16 deficit in the first period. From there, the Blazers failed to recover and absorbed their fifth loss in 12 games. Saint Benilde is now occupying the fifth spot. The Blazers, with a 7-5 card, are now lagging behind host Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas, who remained tied from third to fourth with similar 7-4 cards.

Baser Amer supported Adeogun with his 13 points and three assists as the Red Lions stretched their winning run to three and snapped the Blazers’ three-game streak.
