Robert Bolick banked in the championship-winning triple as San Beda College dethroned De La Salle University with a nail-biting 75-72 victory in the 11th FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup finals on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Bolick drained the dagger trey with 8.5 seconds remaining to hand the Red Lions their second Premier Cup title in three years and deny his former team a repeat in the preseason tilt.
“I’m so happy because we won” said Bolick, who sizzled with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Javee Mocon contributed a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards for the defending National Collegiate Athletic Association titlist while Clint Doliguez scored nine markers, which he poured in the payoff period.
Ben Mbala, who was the tourney’s Most Valuable Player and Best Defensive Player, finished 24 points and 14 boards for the Green Archers.
Down by three with La Salle deadshot Aljun Melecio’s big time hit from beyond the arc, 66-69, AC Soberano sank a triple from the left wing to knot the scoreline at 69-all at the last minute mark.
Bolick sized up Santi Santillan then suddenly pulled up over the outstretched arm of the La Salle forward as the 5-foot-9 playmaker knocked down the biggest shot of the game.
Mbala took an ill-advised three-point attempt that went way off the mark in the ensuing play for the Green Archers.
Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippines University marked a milestone as it made its first podium finish in the preseason competition after outplaying Jose Rizal University, 82-75.
