FIVE-peat champion San Beda College Red Lions will battle the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers while the Arellano University Chiefs will take on the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas today in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament elimination round at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions vs Heavy Bombers clash will happen at 2 p.m. followed by the Chiefs vs Altas match at 4 p.m.
Coach Jamike Jarin’s Red Lions will use the momentum of their 83-81 win over the Altas on July 28. San Beda is just one win away from solo leader Letran, which is unbeaten in seven matches.
“We just want to keep our offense rolling and just run as fast as we can,” said Jarin.
Jarin’s squad will be facing a big challenge because the Heavy Bombers are considered the league’s foremost defensive team.
“If we can slow them down, we’ll have a chance. I kept telling Tey Teodoro that he’s our best player in the team,” said Jose Rizal coach Vergel Meneses.
In the high school division, six-peat titlist San Beda Red Cubs will take on the Jose Rizal Light Bombers at 10 a.m. to be followed by the game between the Arellano Braves and the Perpetual Help Altalettes at 10 a.m.
