FOUR peat champion San Beda College Red Lions crushed the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals, 96-80, on Monday moving closer to snatching a Final Four slot in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Nigerian Ola Adeogun finished with an impressive 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Red Lions in their 11th win in 13 matches. He was 12-of-15 from the field goal as San Beda posted a big 25-point lead, 67-42, with still 1:38 remaining in the third period.
Baser Amer contributed 18 points, while Arthur de la Cruz added 14. The Red Lions also beat the Generals, 81-55, in the first round of the elimination on July 21.
With the setback, their 10th in 13 games, the Generals is out of contention for the Final Four race even if they sweep all remaining five matches. They are locked with the San Sebastian College Stags and the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals that are both bearing similar win-loss slates barely halfway in the second round elimination.
A 10-3 run by the Generals orchestrated by Jan Jamon, Fernan Mejos and Jerals Serrano cut down the gap to only 13 points, 80-93, but that proved to be their last gasp for life as Kyle Pascual and Adeogun came back to widen the gap back to 16 points.
