The San Beda College Red Lions will gun for second straight win and the solo top spot when they face the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals while the Mapua Cardinals will battle the San Sebastian College Stags today in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions vs Generals will start at 2 p.m. while the Mapua Cardinals, who’ve lost to the Red Lions, 102-89, during the opening day, will collide against the Stags at 4 p.m.
In the juniors division, the seven-peat seeking Red Cubs will be also aiming for a second victory when they battle the Emilio Aguinaldo College Brigadiers at 10 a.m. The second game at 12 p.m. will see the San Sebastian Staglets clash against Mapua Red Robins.
After beating Mapua in their first game, Coach Jamike Jarin of San Beda expressed confidence that his wards will again overcome the challenge of the Generals that are now under the tutelage of former PBA standout Andy de Guzman who replaced Gerald Esplana, another PBA veteran.
De Guzman is expected to rely on Adoun Abba Mbang, Mario Bonleon, Dan Corilla,
Enrico Diego, John Estacio, Jozhua General, Jefferson Mallari, Chirst Mejos, Jose Morada, Sidney Onwubere, Francis Munsayac and Laminou Hamadou in their campaign to tame the Red Lions.
They will face the formidable wall of Red Lions Arthur de la Cruz, Pierre Tankou, Ranbill Tongco, Ryusei Koga and Micole Solera, who combined for 90 points in their victory over Mapua.
Singapore Sea Games standout Baser Amer and 6’9 behemoth Olaide Adeogun will miss the game because of injury. Both are expected to be back in two weeks, according to Jarin.
