SOLO leader Letran Knights will stake their 8-1 slate against the San Sebastian Stags while the San Beda College Red Lions will face giant-killer Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals without top center Ola Adeogun today at the start of the second elimination round of the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Letran Knights will face the Stags at 4 p.m. whom they beat 82-76, in their first meeting on July 21.
“We’re just halfway through the tournament, we need to stay hungry,” said Letran coach Aldin Ayo, who guided the squad to a dramatic 89-88 win over the West squad in Friday’s NCAA All-Star Game.
Ayo’s team will be led by skipper Kevin Racal and Mark Cruz, who were drafted 11th and 30th overall pick by Alaska and Star Hotshots respectively during the 2015 PBA annual rookie draft on Sunday.
San Beda, which finished the first round with 7-2 card and is now occupying the second spot with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas is favored over the Generals in their 2 p.m. showdown.
However, the Generals, the only team to beat Letran, 83-69, on August 7, vowed to get even with the Red Lions, who defeated them 80-108 on July 2.
The absence of the 6’8 Nigerian Adeogun who’s serving a one-game suspension for breaking the glass door of their locker room during the halftime of their game against the Arellano Chiefs on August 18, could weaken the Red Lions’ charge against the Generals.
Besides the one-game suspension, the NCAA management committee ordered Adeogun to pay for the damaged he caused at the dugout of The Arena in San Juan City.
