LEGAZPI CITY: Educators in Albay province celebrate World Teacher’s Day on Monday at the Provincial Sports Complex in Travesia in the town of Guinobatan.
Dr. Bibiano Sentillas, Department of Education (DepEd) Albay Division schools superintendent, said more than 7,000 public and private school teachers joined the occasion with the theme: “Empowering Teachers, Building Sustainable Societies”.
Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda, whose parents were both teachers, paid tribute to all teachers, whom he called the real heroes for molding of not only students but also the entire family, the community and the country.
In Rosario, Cavite 12 poor teachers received certificates of land titles from the local government of Rosario.
Rosario Mayor Jose Ricafrente Jr. led the celebration together with 850 public and private teachers.
Caridad Merced, who has been teaching for 42 years at the Cavite State University, was also given a plaque of appreciation for her service.
A group of teachers from Tomas Pinpin Memorial Elementary School in Abucay in Bataan celebrated at their school with a short program.
“Teachers are tired [yet]full of sacrifices in attending to the children and we are dedicating this day for them to enjoy and be happy,” said Principal Elvira Mina.
It was a four-day celebration for teachers from Southville 4 Elementary School, which was prepared by the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) as they were pampered with a free hair cut, free massage, among others.
PTA President Aileen Nuñez said this is a small way of thanking the teachers for the sacrifices they spend on their children through education.
