BAGUIO CITY: The city government is pushing for the rehabilitation of the Loakan Airport here to boost tourism and economic development. Mayor Mauricio Domogan said he will urge the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to upgrade the airport so it can resume operation. Domogan said more tourists, convention events and businesses will come to Baguio City if the airport will be fully rehabilitated and operational. Department of Tourism Regional Director Pura Molintas and city tourism office head Benedicto Alhambra have been campaigning for the improvement and re-opening of the airport. During the 1990 killer earthquake, Loakan Airport played a significant role as it was the only means in bringing in supplies to the city and in transporting injured victims to Manila.
