REMAINING PH BETS SUFFER LOSSES IN WORLD JUNIOR TAE KWON DO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Four more Filipino jins fell short in their respective campaigns in the prestigious 2014 World Junior Tae kwon do Championships being held at the Taipei Arena in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Colleen Heria lost to Nahid Kiyanichandeh of Iran, 1-13, in the girls’ bantamweight quarterfinals while Kaye Shanele Romuar suffered a 0-2 decision to Gulsum Gultekin of Azerbaijan in the girls’ welterweight second round. Alfred Jason Abanto, on the other hand, was humiliated by American Simon Kim, 2-12, in the first round of the boys’ lightweight and Gian Francis Rubio bowed to Ediwal Pontes of Brazil, 4-17, in the boys’ welterweight opening round. The Philippines, which sent a total of 22 jins, has one silver courtesy of finweight Irene Therese Bermejo in the tournament sanctioned by the World Tae kwon do Federation.
