When lawyer Rene Puno—managing partner of Zulueta, Puno and Associates—invite friends to celebrate his birthday, you can be sure it will be the same fun party his friends look forward to every year.
The venue remains at his home in Alabang where he usually serves excellent food that complement the dishes of his lovely wife Ann who, hands down, is a great cook.
It was a joyous gathering of friends, relatives, clients, and professional associates that was marked by good conversation, dancing and special song numbers by Rene’s many talented guests.
Ann made sure that the food fare would not disappoint the guests. The dinner was catered by Neil’s Kitchen—the trendy restaurant located in Westgate, Alabang—and had a complete line of excellent dishes, such as delectable stuffed turkey, baked fish, a grilling station serving perfectly done steaks, and many other sumptuous dishes.
An added treat were two Cebu lechons which Eva Gullas, the noted publisher of Cebu’s premier magazine Zee lifestyle, arranged to have delivered to Manila in time for the party.
Not to be outdone, Ann prepared a full array of her sought-after desserts that were to die for. No one makes cassava pastry and chocnut cake the way she does.
Rene’s guests included charming Israeli Ambassador Effie Ben Matityau, and his vivacious wife, former Panamaniam Ambassador, Lizia Lu.
Early birds gorgeous Vicky Zubiri with hubby Gov. Joe Zubiri—who came in one of his rare social appearances and became very game to join the dancing—, business magnate Joseph Calata with tall and lovely wife Nel Calata, consuls Helen Ong and Fortune Ledesma, my guru George Sison, and other notable personalities, were served bubbles and wine with their hearty meals.
Right after dinner, several musical numbers were performed by actor Ricky Davao, George Sarakinis, consul Fortune, Bebot Laurel, Eimee Cragun, and Nik Lombos. Even Ann sang several bouncy numbers.
Of course, the birthday boy also serenaded the enthusiastic attendees with some songs of his own.
But the evening did not end on that note, the visitors took to the dance floor and danced the night away. It was such a fun evening to toast a memorable occasion.
To Rene, many, happy returns of the day and more celebrations to come!
