TERESITA TANHUECO-TUMAPON

MULTI-TASKING aptly describes the daily lives of academic managers. Besides those responsibilities on internal matters (instructional supervision, curriculum design and development, strategic planning, etc.), there are those addressed to various publics. Universities are not ivory towers, and as I have often remarked to our academic constituents, “there should be no wall between the gown and the town.” So, it has always been. One of such tasks is to give either the opening or closing remarks, a message, a welcome to an audience. The event could be co-hosted with an external entity. I share some thoughts from the closing remarks after a two-day presentation of research studies on food security by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD) co-hosted with the university. Though half a decade ago, the same issues persist, such as price increases in basic goods, gasoline, light and water included.
