SUSPECTED members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) abducted a retired marine in Pangutaran Island in Sulu on Monday, belated reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City (Metro Manila) said on Wednesday. Col. Alan Arrojado, Commander, Joint Task Group Sulu, said retired Master Sergeant Renato Fernandez was aboard a motorboat when four heavily-armed ASG members snatched him at around 9:15 p.m. on Monday. Arrojado said troops of the Joint Task Group Sulu and the Sulu Provincial Police Office are conducting joint rescue operations. Capt. Rowena Muyuela, public affairs officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command said authorities have yet to receive any ransom demand.
