Retired police general named new airport police chief

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has named a retired police general as the new Airport Police Department (APD) chief vice General (ret.) Alger Tan who resigned from the post last August.

MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said he appointed Jesus Gordon Descanzo to be the new APD chief effective last week. Descanzo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1982, is the former director of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-ASG).

Honrado said Descanzo’s appointment need not be approved by the nine-man MIAA board of directors since the post is a “division office.” He said the post of assistant general managers are the ones who will have to seek the board of directors’ approval.

Descanzo, who formally assumed office Friday last week, retired from the police service last month after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

Honrado, on the other hand, said he has yet to name the replacement of Salvador Penaflor who resigned as MIAA assistant general manager for security and emergency early last month. PNA
