Philippine Ambassador to Italy Virgilio Reyes has received the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) for his exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions in his field of endeavor.
Reyes is also the Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, the World Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. He was elected a member of the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property from 2103 to 2017.
He has served as ambassador to Pretoria, South Africa, with jurisdiction over eight countries from 2003-2009; minister and consul general in Chile from 1998-2000; minister and consul general in Mexico from 1997 to 1998; minister and consul general inYangon, Myanmar, from 1994-1997; Third Secretary, Second Secretary and First Secretary at the Philippine Mission to the UN in New York from 1983-1991.
Other recipients of the award are Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Teresita Herbosa and Hong Kong-based publisher, activist and lawyer Daisy Mandap.
