RIZAL Park and other major streets in Manila will be rehabilitated and repaired by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in preparation for the two major events happening in the country next year—the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and Pope Francis’ visit.
Pope Francis will be in the country on January 15 to 19, while APEC will open a few days after the papal visit although some initial lower level meetings will start as early as October this year.
DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Reynaldo Tagudando said they are doing a total physical makeover of Rizal Park to make it more presentable for the millions of Catholic faithful expected to flock there to hear Pope Francis say mass.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson and Tagudando said the bulk of their repair works would focus on physical improvements of the Quirino grandstand.
Among the works to be done are installation of some attractive signs at the Quirino grandstand, repair of pavements and other areas in and around the vicinity of the world famous park.
Aside from the Rizal Park, repair works will also be done along Roxas Boulevard and other major thoroughfares for the APEC summit in 2015.
