Gymnast Viktoria Caithlyn Enriquez of Rizal copped four gold medals while Quezon City wushu practitioners topped their respective events in the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championships held at separate venues on Wednesday.
Enriquez dominated the women’s artistic gymnastics, the high-performance Level 2 individual all around (IAA), the balance beam as well as the vault and floor exercises at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. She won a silver medal in the uneven bars event.
“These are the fruits of my labor. I just did what I am told to do so,” said Enriquez after her performance.
In the high-performance Level 3 category, Lucia Gabrielle Gutierrez of Pasig City won four golds after ruling the IAA, uneven bars, balance beam and floor.
Meanwhile, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, Quezon City bagged eight gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals in the wushu taolu (form) contest.
The gold medalists were Maymay Datiles (girls’ basic gunshu), Mark Lester Ragay (boys’ basic gunshu), Mark Anthony Sese (boys’ 1st set jian shu and boys’ 1st qiang shu), Sandrex Ganisan (boys’ basic qiang shu), Kimberly Macuna (girls’ 1st qiang shu), Chris Carlo Dumayon (boys’ nan quan), and John Butch Ambong (boys’ 24 step taijiquan).
Baguio City finished second with four golds while Pasay City, Manila City and Cebu won one gold each.
