Boxing trainer Freddie Roach arrives today in General Santos City to start Manny Pacquiao’s build-up for his title fight against undefeated American Chris Algieri on November 23 at the Cotai Arena in Venetian Hotel in Macau, China.
Pacquiao’s light workout started as early as August under assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez, and the 54-year-old Roach is expected to put Pacquiao (56-5-2 win-loss-draw slate with 38 knockouts) to intense workouts and sparring sessions.
“Supposedly, Freddie is set to arrive tomorrow in General Santos via Philippine Airlines,” Pacquiao’s long time adviser Mike Koncz told The Manila Times yesterday via phone interview. “I think he’s going to be happy once he sees Manny’s current condition.”
Algieri (20-0 slate with eight knockouts) is presently the junior World Boxing Organization welterweight titleholder, while the 35-year-old Pacquiao is the WBO welterweight champion.
