A bicycle rider died after he was sideswiped by a speeding van, while some 15 passengers were hurt when the bus they were riding rammed another bus in separate vehicular accidents in Parañaque City (Metro Manila).
Killed was Noli delos Santos, who sustained severe body and head injuries after he was thrown off his bike on Japan Street, Better Living Subdivision, on Monday morning.
Police said Willy Aquino, while driving his Isuzu Elf van (ALA 938), sideswiped the victim, who landed head first on the concrete road.
The driver of the van surrendered to police after the accident, saying he did not notice delos Reyes.
Meanwhile, 15 persons were injured when a Nissan Civilian bus (DWZ 433), driven by Emeterio Caisip, rammed into Hyundai Aero bus (TYS 868), driven by Francisco Albano.
A police report showed that the Caisip-driven bus lost its brake when it rammed the Hyundai Aero bus while traversing the north-bound lane of Aguinaldo Highway, Parañaque City.
The accident took place at 5:30 p.m., Monday.
The injured passengers and the two drivers were brought to San Juan de Dios Hospital.
