TRAFFIC in some portions of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) is expected to be heavy this weekend.
Traffic jams may be caused by road reblocking and repairs to be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
The DPWH road works will start from 10 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday in some portions of Edsa that cover the cities of Makati and Quezon.
The road reblocking and repairs will be conducted on Edsa between Roosevelt Avenue and East Lawin (Southbound, fourth lane), Quezon City; on Balete Drive between Aurora Boulevard and Campanilla (first lane), Quezon City; on Edsa between Guadalupe Bridge and Ayala Avenue (Southbound, first lane), Makati City; on Edsa between Reliance and Ortigas Avenue (Northbound, first lane of Shaw Blvd. tunnel); on Edsa between Santolan and Ortigas Avenue (Southbound, fifth lane from Santolan to approach of Ortigas flyover and on 1st lane of service road of Ortigas flyover); on Edsa between New York Street and Monte de Piedad (Southbound, first lane).
The MMDA advised motorists to use alternate routes.
All roads will be fully passable by Monday morning, the MMDA said.
Meanwhile, owing to the searing summer heat, the MMDA is reviving its daily “heat stroke break” policy to protect the health of its on-duty traffic constables and street sweepers.
Under the policy, field personnel are allowed to leave their posts for 30 minutes alternately to rest and get away from the sun, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.
The heat stroke break, he added, is from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., which health agencies and weather experts said was the hottest part of the day this season.
