Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) bagged its fifth straight victory on Wednesday after beating KIA Motors, 102-86, strengthening its playoff bid in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 40 Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Import Al Thornton finished with a team-high 33 points; Jonas Villanueva added 20 points, Mac Cardona 16 points, Rudy Lingganay12 points and Paul Asi Taulava10 points for the Road Warriors.

NLEX’s win-loss record improved to 6-4.

“We really had a very bad first half. The effort was not there and then we had a 360-degree turn in the second half in our defense. We did good game plan against PJ Ramos. Asi did a good job against PJ,” said NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez.

KIA Carnival’s win-loss record dropped to 4-6 despite 7’4 Peter John Ramos finishing with 41 points.

Meanwhile, after slapping Beau Belga and Raymund Almazan of Rain or Shine with P70,000 and P40,000 fines, respectively because of misconduct and unsportsmanlike foul in their last game, PBA commissioner Chito Salud also ordered that head coach Yeng Guiao pay a P22,400 fine for quarreling with San Miguel Beer import Arizona Reid.
