SOME roads in Manila will be closed on Saturday for the traslacion or the annual procession of the Black Nazarene.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists to expect heavy traffic in Manila, particularly near areas where the annual procession will pass.

Crisanto Saruca, MMDA traffic discipline head, said 15 million devotees may join the traslacion.

The procession will start from the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park at 7 a.m.

The “pahalik” or kissing of the Nazarene’s feet will start at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 8 while the vigil will start at 7 p.m. until midnight.

Saruca said the MMDA will also deploy some 1,680 personnel in Quiapo.

From the Quirino Grandstand (Rizal Park), the grand procession of the Black Nazarene will go through Katigbak Drive to P. Burgos, turn left to Taft Ave. (P. Burgos) thru Jones Bridge and on to Escolta St., right to Dasmariñas St. to Plaza Sta. Cruz St; left to Carlos Palanca St. under Quezon Bridge, left to Quezon Blvd., right Arlegui St., right to Fraternal St. and on to Vergara St., Duque de Alba St., left to Castillejos St., left Farnecio St., right to Arlegui St. and on to Nepomuceno St., Aguila St., Carcer St., right to Hidalgo St. thru Plaza del Carmen, left to Bilibid Viejo thru Gonzalo Ruyat St., left to Guzman St., right to Hidalgo St., left Barbosa St., right Globo de Oro St. to Quezon Bridge, right to Palanca St., right to Villalobos St. thru Plaza Miranda to Quiapo Church.

Motorists can take the following alternate routes: from the northern part of Manila, those intending to use the southbound leg of Bonifacio Drive should turn right to Roberto S. Oca St., left to Delgado St., left to Bonifacio Drive, right to Soriano Ave. St. to Magallanes Drive, right to P. Burgos St., straight to Lagusnilad to Taft Ave.

All heavy vehicles and cargo trucks coming from southern Metro Manila should take Osmeña Drive, right to Quirino St. to Nagtahan St.

Buses coming from southern Metro Manila passing through Taft Ave. will not be allowed to enter from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.

Vehicles going to north or south of Manila should use the stretch of Lacson St. to Nagtahan or the stretch of Road 10 to Roxas Boulevard.

Vehicles coming from Quezon City that will pass through España Boulevard should turn right to P. Campa St., left to Andalucia St., right to Fugoso St., left to T. Mapua St. to their destination.

Vehicles going to South Pier Zone should turn left to Nicanor Reyes St., right to Recto, left to Reina Regente St., straight to Jones Bridge to point of destination.

Vehicles coming from Divisoria can take Recto St., turn left to T. Alonzo St., right to Fugoso St., left to Andalucia St. to their point of desintation.

Those coming from Legarda should turn right to Recto or left to Mendiola.
