Another suspect who allegedly robbed and raped two women while on board a colorum public utility vehicle in Quezon City last week, was arrested early Friday morning by the police, but was eventually killed when he tried to grabbed the gun of an operative while on board a police mobile vehicle.
Police Supt. Rodel Marcelo, the chief of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) headquarters in Camp Karingal, identified the suspect as Alfie Palana Turado.
Marcelo said Turado was the same suspect earlier identified as one “Buddy” who took part in robbing and raping two women while inside a public utility vehicle last week.
Marcelo said Turado was positively identified by the victims as the culprit, together with Wilfredo Lorenzo who was first arrested by police operatives in Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City, on Monday.
Marcelo said they received phone calls informing them of the whereabouts of Turado particularly at M. Aquino St., Banlat, Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.
The CIDU chief said tracker teams proceeded to the said place but Turado was nowhere to be found. The operatives then received information that he was spotted hiding in Barangay Obrero, Quezon City so they immediately coordinated with barangay officials who joined them in combing the area at around 2 a.m. Friday.
Turado noticed the presence of police operatives and in an effort to elude arrest, he climbed up the roofs and run away from his hideout.
Marcelo said the commotion caught the attention of the residents who helped the police corner the suspect.
Upon his arrest, the suspect was brought to the CIDU headquarters where he then told CIDU operatives and investigators to accompany him in retrieving the stolen items of the victims in his residence in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.
However, upon reaching Tandang Sora near corner Visayas Avenue, Turado suddenly grappled with the service firearm of one of his escorts identified as Police Officer 2 Randy Gandingco.
Marcelo said during the scuffle, the firearm went off hitting Turado in his chest and neck.
The victim was brought to East Avenue Medical Center but died at around 3:58 a.m. Friday.
As this developed, two other female victims of robbery appeared at the CIDU office and positively identified Lorenzo as the same driver of a van who robbed them of cash and a tablet.
The victims narrated that the incident happened last March 19, 2016 at Roosevelt Avenue corner EDSA, Barangay Veterans Village, Quezon City.
