“VERNACULAR” architecture, outsourced jobs for the locals, and homegrown products will be the highlights of the upcoming Robinsons Galleria Cebu, which is set to open on December 10.
Dubbed by company officials as the country’s first garden mall with green, local-culture architectural design, Robinsons Galleria Cebu is Robinsons Land Corporations’ (RLC) third mall in the Queen City of the South and biggest mall outside Metro Manila.
The new mall is part of a 4.7 mixed-use development that aims to “reinvent, revitalize, and increase property values in an area of Cebu that was previously underutilized” according to RLC.
Aside from the mall, which stands on Gen. Maxilom Ave., RLC’s second Summit Hotel in Cebu, three residential condominiums, and additional office buildings, will form part of the entire commercial complex.
“Complete with lush interior gardens, cascading water features, and the Sun Court al fresco dining area, Robinsons Galleria Cebu’s shopping and dining selections include homegrown Cebuano retail stores and restaurants like The Chocolate Chamber; first-time mall tenants, such as Azabu and Fat Cow; and regional players, who will open their very first stores in Cebu like Sans Rival and the Bohol Bee Farm,” the Robinsons Malls’ website said.
With 158,000 square meters of leasable space, the mall will include a modern art cinema complex, a Lingkod Pinoy Center that will house satellite offices of government agencies, an upscale supermarket, and a retail strip featuring local and foreign products.
“This six-storey ‘commercial complex’ houses more than 200 tenants, offering an eclectic mix of local, national and international brands that will complement major anchor stores like Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Selections, Robinsons Appliances, True Value, and Toys R’ Us,” the mall’s website said.
The mall will also feature on its third and fourth floors an office component that integrates 9,000 square meters of leasable office space that would cater to business process outsourcing (BPO) and knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) locators in Cebu.
“The space will come with Variant Refrigerant Flow Air Conditioning units, said Bryan David, associate director for office services of Colliers International, RLC’s sole leasing agent for the mall’s office component. “This is a feature sought by BPO locators for its cost scalability, which is common in Manila but not often found in Cebu.”
The integrated office space in its new mall is aimed at capitalizing on the continuous growth of the Cebu office market.Demand for office properties in Cebu City has grown by more than 57 percent since 2013, driven mainly by the BPO market, says Dom Andaya, Colliers International Associate Director for Office Services Tenant Representation.
Global outsourcing advisory firm Tholons has placed Cebu City at the eight position in its roster of the best BPO destinations in the world.
“Locators will also benefit from the foot traffic generated by the mall,” said David. “The location is accessible from different areas of Cebu via private and public transport.”
The hotel component of the mixed-use development, meanwhile, is set to be operational by the first quarter of 2017.
The Summit Galleria Cebu hotel will feature 200 rooms, a 500-person capacity ballroom, and meeting facilities.
It seeks to serve different markets, such as families on vacation and clients of BPO tenants, who are looking for short-term accommodations.
The grand opening of the Robinsons Galleria Cebu is set on December 10, 2015.
