VICE President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo is supportive of the call to investigate a pre-dawn raid in Ozamiz City, which killed Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog Sr., his wife Susan, and 13 others on Sunday.
Robredo issued the statement on the sidelines of her consultation trip in Navotas City for her office’s anti-poverty program, “Angat Buhay”.
“We expect a thorough investigation. We can’t just look past what happened. This affects not only the families of the victims, but the rest of the country as well. We need to show that justice must be served,” Robredo, a lawyer, said.
“We want to trust our institutions because that is the essence of our democracy. Our institutions should deliver on its mandate so as not to raise suspicions,” Robredo added.
President Rodrigo Duterte named the Parojinogs as among the politicians on his drug list.
The Parojinog couple’s daughter, Ozamiz Vice Mayor Nova Parojinog Echavez was also arrested after the raid in San Roque Lawis where authorities also seized illegal drugs and firearms.
The vice mayor is in a relationship with high-profile New Bilibid Prison inmate Herbert Colangco. LLANESCA T. PANTI
