Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential candidate Rep. Leni Robredo lashed out at Sen. Francis Escudero on Saturday over the latter’s statement that President Benigno Aquino 3rd should not have endorsed candidates in the 2016 polls to ensure credible conduct of polls.
Robredo noted that Escudero did not complain when the president drafted him to be part of the administration’s Senate slate in 2013 where he won a six-year mandate.
“Hindi siya nagreklamo noon pero bakit ngayon nagrereklamo siya? [He did not complain then, why is he ranting now]? As our leader, it is President Aquino’s duty to choose the best bets who will continue his reforms,” Robredo said.
Aquino has been actively campaigning for Robredo and Liberal Party presidential bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd. He joined Roxas and Robredo when they campaigned in the provinces of Laguna and Cavite last week.
Robredo said Aquino has endorsed and campaigned for them because it is part of his duty as Chief Executive to ensure that the programs that he implemented will be continued. Also, Aquino is tHe chairman of the LP.
“The President knows that it is very important that the gains that his administration achieved should be continued. It is his duty to support the candidates whom he believes in. Why would he relent at this point?” Robredo said.
