MIAMI: Mark Reynolds hit the go-ahead blast in the sixth inning as the Colorado Rockies defeated the Miami Marlins 5-3 in a game that featured eight solo home runs on Monday night (Tuesday in Manila).
It marked Reynolds’s second home run of the contest and came off relief pitcher Brian Ellington, snapping a streak of 15 consecutive scoreless innings by Miami’s bullpen in the past week.
The Marlins have yet to record a four-game sweep since moving into Marlins Park stadium four years ago.
The eight solo homers are the most in a major league game this season. It also established a major league record for most solo blasts in a game in which all the runs scored were by home runs.
Two of the shots were hit by Miami center fielder Marcell Ozuna, who has 15 homers this season.
With the victory, the Rockies avoided what would have been Miami’s first four-game sweep over Colorado since 1996.
