Romasanta speaks on baseball issue

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) first Vice President Joey Romasanta said that the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was right in deciding to cut the monthly stipend of the members of the national baseball team and ordering them to vacate their quarters at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

“There is no national team so far because the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) is not recognized by the POC due to its unrecognized elections. The PSC just did their job,” Romasanta told The Manila Times.

Romasanta was tasked by the POC together with lawyer Ramon Malinao to handle the PABA issue.

“We’re studying the by-laws of their association and at the same time, the directive from the IOC [International Olympic Committee]. We’re also waiting for baseball and softball officials to communicate with us, but they are not communicating so how can we determine their stakeholders,” added Romasanta.

National baseball team member Jonash Rances Fulgencio Jr. said they would seek the help of Senator Pia Cayetano to help them air their grievances against the PSC.
