Pope Francis has appointed Father Narciso Abellana as the new bishop of the Diocese of Romblon.
The new appointment was announced in Rome on Wednesday.
Abellana, who is from the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC), is the fifth bishop of Romblon.
He was ordained on December 28, 1978 and has been a missionary for almost 35 years.
Abellana took his seminary formation at the Loyola School of Theology and earned his Licentiate in Church History at the Gregorian University in Rome.
Currently, the bishop-elect is the chaplain of the Central Luzon State University in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
Romblon had been without a bishop since Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc was transferred to the Diocese of Aklan in July 2011.
