Terrence Romeo exploded for 35 points as GlobalPort manhandled Barangay Ginebra, 91-84, on Sunday for third victory in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 42 Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The combo guard Romeo, who hit 12-of-24 in the field, was obviously the headache for the entire Ginebra fans for every move and every basket he made particularly in crunch time leading the Batang Pier to a 3-1 win-loss record.
“It’s good game for us,” said GlobaPort coach Franz Pumaren. “I think my team is slowly maturing. We crumbled against Alaska. We lost by more than 20 in an exhibition against Ginebra in the preseason.”
“We don’t want a flat start and we don’t want the crowd to get involved. Romeo is a different breed, he’s really talented and right now he’s playing aggressive defense. He’s moving the ball. He is the new Terrence Romeo that can really change the game, making his teammates look good.”
Jay-R Quinahan added 15 points along with nine rebounds, while Stanley Pringle made 12 points and Nino KG Canaleta contributed 10 points also for the Batang Pier.
Ginebra fell to 1-2 win-loss record.
LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar posted 23 points each for the Gin Kings.
