Veteran point guard Terrence Romeo of Far Eastern University (FEU) once again towed his team to a nerve-wracking win last Sunday to earn the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 men’s basketball Accel-3XVI Player of the Week award.
Romeo scored a career-high 30 points when FEU outlasted University of the East in double overtime, 98-94.
The Tamaraws are still on top with an 8-2 mark.
“It just makes us stronger, and to think that RR was not there. That’s what this team is all about, players stepping up,” said FEU head coach Nash Racela referring to Ryan Roose Garcia, who served a one-game suspension because of unsportsmanlike infraction.
Romeo delivered a crucial three-pointer with a couple of minutes left in the second overtime that sealed the win for the Tamaraws.
“I’m so proud of them. This is the first time that I will say that I’m so, so, so proud of my players,” added Racela.
Romeo edged De La Salle University rookie Jason Perkins, Ateneo de Manila University standout Kiefer Ravena and Ryan Buenafe, and National University Robin Rono for the award given by sports writers from different publications.
