University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) Cherry Ann Rondina and Ateneo de Manila University’s Marck Jesus Espejo are leading the Most Valuable Player (MVP) race in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 volleyball tournament.
After the first round of elimination, Rondina topped the scoring department with 129 points on 104 spikes, 15 aces and 10 blocks. She also grabbed the fifth spot in digging with an average of 2.08 digs per set.
Adamson University’s Jessica Galanza placed second with 118 points (107 spikes, seven aces and four blocks) while Far Eastern University’s Toni Roses Basas occupied the third spot with 116 points (96 spikes, 14 aces and six blocks).
Two-time MVP Alyssa Valdez of the defending champion Lady Eagleswound up fourth with 113 points followed by EJ Laure of UST (106), Jaja Santiago of National University (97), rookie Isa Molde of University of the Philippines (90), Adamson’s May Roque (86) and Mylene Paat (86), and Mary Joy Baron of De La Salle University (81).
For his part, the reigning men’s MVP Espejo dominated the statistics with 130 total points on 107 spikes, 12 aces and 11 blocks, and ranked fifth in reception with 32.89 efficiency rating.
Raymark Woo of La Salle took the No. 2 position with 127 (114 spikes, seven aces and six blocks) followed by Wendel Miguel of UP (122), John Arjay Onia of La Salle (97), Wedward Camposano of University of the East (93), Bryan Saraza of Adamson (91), Manuel Medina of UST (88), Dave Pletado of Adamson (87), and NU’s Bryan Bagunas (85) and James Martin Natividad (85).
