Rookie policeman bullied, shot


A newbie policeman was wounded after he was shot by a group of inebriated men in an alleged bullying incident in Pasay City early Monday morning. Police Officer 1 Edward Kim Mariano of the National Capital Region Police Office and Taguig City Police Station was waiting for a female friend, Justin Maeje Quileste, on Caravel Drive when the suspects led by a certain Mat Mat Mota allegedly harassed him. The suspects’ motive is yet to be established, but investigation disclosed that Mariano was about to attend a birthday party of a certain Mary Rose de Leon in the nearby compound of Camarillo. Police said the intoxicated men only stopped hounding the policeman when neighbors intervened and assisted him to the house of Quileste. However, the same group managed to trace Mariano and forcibly entered Quileste’s house. One of the men shot Mariano at close range with a .40 caliber pistol in his left knee. The group fled on foot after the incident. Mariano was rushed to the Pasay City General Hospital for immediate treatment, while authorities are still conducing follow-up operations for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
